REPORTS from the US claim Disney is planning to layoff hundreds of employees as the entertainment giant reorganizes its operations.
Disney officials declined to say how many are about to be fired. It was also unclear if crew onboard Disney’s ships Magic and Wonder would be part of the staffing review.
Disney said it was combining backstage operations, like food and beverage, maintenance and merchandising, and placing them under one management structure.
Holidayinsiders.com believes layoffs are across the board and include jobs at both theme parks, resorts, the corporate office in Burbank and the cruise lines.
Disney employs about 80,000 "cast members." Around 62,000 are in central Florida.
Layoffs began this month. Disney officials would not confirm when they would cease. Employees have complained of an increase this week as Disney is streamlining its vast operations and facilities department.
