SHIPS crew from the luxury cruise liner P&O Pacific Dawn made a daring rescue in the South Pacific after a man jumped overboard, it’s being reported by the online Australian today.
The 22-year-old passenger, who has not been named by P&O or Coast Guard, was rescued as P&O’s 75,000 ton vessel sailed 20 miles off the island of Vanuata.
Eye witnesses say they saw the man just leap off the deck into the water below in front of their eyes.
Ship’s crew called the bridge and the ship turned back – he was plucked from the cold water after 45 minutes searching.
It’s alleged the man and his friends had been partying on the upper desk before he jumped. The ship’s doctor was called to treat him as he lay on the deck. He was uninjured.
Today’s news brings to three incidents in as many weeks of passengers falling from cruise liners. He is the third man-overboard case in the cruise industry. A Carnival employee was seen falling overboard last month, and then a few days after a women passenger apparently jumped from her ship the Norwegian Dawn.
US Cops are still investigating both incidents, and have yet to speak with the ships crews.
