COPS are investigating how a male passenger onboard the 77,000-ton passenger cruise liner Oceana died during a planned scuba diving trip with P&O Cruises.
It’s reported that the man, who has not been named, died on pre-planned dive with a local PADI dive school during the Oceana’s day stop in Tortola a P&O spokesperson said.
The 2,016-passenger ship had travelled from Barbados on a two-week cruise his cause of death has not been given by US police.
P&O immediately suspended all trips with the PDAI school whilst an investigation gets underway.
In a statement P&O said: “Onboard sales of that particular excursion have been suspended pending an investigation. The dive was for PADI certified and experienced divers only and was operated in full cooperation with PADI best practice and procedures. Adding: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the man's family and our Care team has been providing support and practical assistance."
