PALOMA is rapidly losing strength over Cuba and has been downgraded to a tropical storm.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami told Holidayinsiders.com the once-powerful Category 4 hurricane now has maximum sustained winds of about 70 mph (110 kph). Paloma roared across Cuba on Sunday, knocking down power lines and forcing hundreds of thousands of people to evacuate on an island still recovering from two other devastating storms. Paloma made landfall near Santa Cruz del Sur late Saturday as an extremely dangerous Category 4 storm, but soon weakened. Forecasters say the Cuban government has discontinued all warnings associated with Paloma.
